A Twisted Life?

Pretending a crappy photo is a work of art making a statement...

Artwork title: Twisted Life
Artist: somebody
Created: at some time

When you look at this photo, what do you see? Some sort of white surface and an orange extension lead? If you saw any of these, then clearly you're missing what's right before your eyes.

Sure, there is a white chair and an orange extension lead... but don't let that distract you from the truly obvious.

Clearly, this photo is making a statement about life. Notice the arrangement of the orange lead. It's not neatly arranged. If a neatly arranged lead represents an orderly life, then a twisted lead obviously represents the chaos in life.

Was the arrangement of the lead done by chance or was it planned? This must represent how sometimes the chaos in your life is sometimes planned and sometimes by chance. Wait, planned chaos? Yes, you read correctly. Sometimes you purposefully cause your own chaos because you want there to be a little chaos.

Did you see the marks on the lead? If the lead represents life, then the marks indicates that this life is aged and has experienced many things... which is only re-affirmed by the exposure of the wires. What does all this mean?

Well, it means that over time, you experience many things, some may leave marks or scars or whatever. Is life better with or without those marks? Well, a better way to look at it would be to say that those marks indicate experience. To say that those marks shouldn't be there is equivalent to saying you didn't need those experiences. But, can you really say for certain that any experience is a wasted experience? hmm...

At this stage, this is what the photo has told us so far:

  • Over time, you'll experience many things... some of which leaves some heavy marks which can't be forgotten
  • Life can get twisted up and chaotic
  • Sometimes we look for chaos

Is that all? Most definitely not. The fact that it's an aged life and that it's twisted up, yet there is uncertainty regrading whether it was twisted up by choice or not, clearly reflects that over time, your life my end up all twisted, even though you didn't want it to be.

Now I know what you're thinking, "What about the white surface?" Don't worry, I'm getting to that. Now, as you've probably already figured out, the white surface is actually a white plastic chair.

As hard as this may be to believe, some of you reading this, may have had a little trouble figuring out that the lead was on a chair. I mean, what else could it be. At this point there should be a thought lingering at the back of your mind, "Was the chair's identify purposefully hidden and if so, what are the implications on the extension lead called life?"

If it was indented that the chair's identity be difficult to identify... then clearly this has dramatic implications. This means that the chair was not the focus... the white surface was actually the focus.

The white surface most likely represents a clean slate or a fresh start. Like a blank piece of paper. The aged life is being compared to the clean slate... which makes it easy to spot all the marks on life. The marks stand out.

But, life was orange, not white. In other words, it can't really be compared. So, is there some other reason behind the white surface. Perhaps it's not about the clean slate as much as it is about our perceptions about life. Perhaps we perceived life as a white surface when it was actually an orange lead.

Wait, so the photo is actually telling a story of perceptions as apposed to the twisted-ness of life? Interesting...
